"This work was full of technical challenges: the reflections in the silver cocktail shaker, the luminous purples of the flowers, and the complex geometry of the leaves were tricky to capture. I think of this painting as a bit of a puzzle, and there are a few details to look out for: the roll of tape divided into a semi-circle by the canvas edge, the card that is a 5 of spades in reflection but blank seen straight on, and the mosaic of blues and purples in the petals of the irises."
