"This work was produced serendipitously. I was painting an informal study of a pomegranate balanced on a very ordinary glass, when a moth appeared in the studio and found its way into the painting… The pomegranate is one of those symbolic fruit - it represents, depending on who you ask, fertility, blood, sensuality - however here, with with the fruit torn open and the moth gently landing on it's crown, there is a very strong sense of time passing, of melancholy and loss."
